A repeat-play toy of ship and lighthouse

"Uminy" is a repeat-play toy in which building blocks become a ship's cargo. You drop the cargo (the blocks) in from the top of the lighthouse. Send the ship in from behind the lighthouse, carry straight on, and there is the cargo sitting on the ship's deck! Unload it, go back into the lighthouse, and this time the ship sets sail with cargo of a different colour. Once the lighthouse is empty of blocks, you drop the cargo in from the top again... send the ship in... set sail... and so the play goes round and round.

The blocks and the paintwork of the Uminy ship use finishes that meet Germany's strict safety standards. Everything is made in our own workshop too, so it is a toy you can use with confidence for years to come.

A Tuminy that plays at sea – and so, Uminy

Uminy is built to the same specification as the "Tuminy" series, so it can be played with alongside the Tuminy trucks and garage. Cargo carried by truck can now be delivered by ship to the next town along; cargo unloaded from the ship can be laid out as a road for the truck. Because the specification is shared, playing with them together lets pretend play expand naturally and nurtures the imagination.

The way the cargo comes out of the building differs from the truck, too. The truck reverses into the garage and then sets off forwards, whereas the Uminy ship enters from behind the lighthouse and sails out forwards. It is the same game, but because the blocks come out differently, the movement of the fingertips and the child's line of sight change with it. In this way the ability to work things out is nurtured naturally through play.

Local wood, sustainable making

Uminy is made from fine hinoki cypress grown in Saitama Prefecture. We make a point of using Japanese wood, and especially timber from the area close to us. Beyond nurturing richer forests and giving back to the local community, it also cuts the petroleum fuel used in transport. We will continue making toys as part of our work towards a sustainable society, and we hope to pass that on naturally to children through play.
