Donguri hinoki

A wooden toy featuring an acorn-hat character that walks charmingly down a slope: "Donguri Korokoro." "Donguri Hinoki" is made from Japanese cypress (hinoki) sourced in Saitama Prefecture, dressed in traditional Japanese colors.

－ Features －

• As it slowly rolls down the slope, the wooden ball taps against the wood with a pleasant "koto-koto" sound — a slow movement that even the eyes of little ones whose vision is still developing can easily follow.
• Children's hand movements are still less developed than adults', and their hands can get sweaty and slippery, but the acorn cap's protrusions are shaped to be easy for small hands to grip firmly.
• Hinoki's fresh scent contains hinokitiol, a compound said to have relaxing and antibacterial properties.
• The paint is a natural finish made without petroleum-based solvents, and the adhesive is also a highly safe formulation (see the FAQ below for details).

We wanted people to feel the warmth of Japanese wood more closely in daily life, and for children to naturally connect with nature through play — that's the wish behind "Donguri Hinoki." Made from Saitama-grown hinoki, it also supports forest conservation, gives back to the local community, and reduces reliance on petroleum-based materials — a small step toward a more sustainable society that we hope to pass on to children through play. It comes in five calm, traditional Japanese colors inspired by flowers and plants.

Tilt the base slightly to create a slope, and it will wobble sweetly as it makes its way down. Any flat, board-like surface works as a slope — a tray, a serving board, or even a picture book will do.

Recommended for ages 3 and up. Since the movement is slow, an adult can move it for babies still crawling to enjoy together.

Q. What age is it suitable for?
A. It's recommended for ages 3 and up. Even younger children can enjoy watching the cute rolling motion when an adult moves it for them.

Q. What kind of sound does it make?
A. As it rolls down the slope, the wooden ball taps against the wood, making a pleasant "koto-koto" sound.

Q. Is the paint and adhesive safe?
A. The paint used (U-OIL Hard) is a natural finish made without petroleum-based solvents, at a safety level suitable for skin contact. In a 2018 analysis by the Japan Food Research Laboratories, it was tested against the standards of Japan's Food Sanitation Act (for synthetic resin utensils and containers), and all items — including cadmium, lead, and heavy metal leaching — were confirmed within safe limits. Formaldehyde emission testing also confirmed it meets F☆☆☆☆ equivalent standards. The adhesive used, Titebond III, is also highly safe (FDA-approved in the US, compliant with ASTM D4236).

Q. Is there a difference between the colors?
A. All five colors — Sakura, Yamabuki, Tsuyukusa, Fuji, and Wakakusa — are identical in material, size, and function. Please choose whichever color you like best.
