Donguri Korokoro Coffee Dyed – Wooden Rolling Toy | Made in Japan
Pickup currently unavailable
A naturally-toned version of Donguri Korokoro, with its acorn cap dyed using coffee.
– Features –
- We use spent coffee grounds, discarded daily at our own café, cafemg, as a natural dye to create a soft, light-brown tone. Putting a familiar material to use like this supports healthier forests, gives back to the local community, and helps reduce our use of petroleum-based fuels. We hope that through play, children can come to feel a connection with nature like this, too.
- As it rolls down the slope, the little glass ball inside knocks against the wood and makes a pleasant "koto-koto" sound, and its slow rolling motion is easy for little ones whose eyesight is still developing to follow with their eyes.
- Children's hand movements are still less developed than adults', and their hands can be slippery with sweat — but the acorn cap's ridge is shaped to be easy for small hands to grip firmly.
- The cap is naturally dyed with coffee grounds and then top-coated with Kigatame Ace. The paint and glue used on the face are also certified safe under Japanese and international safety standards, safe even if licked (see the FAQ below for details).
Tilt the base that Donguri Korokoro sits on just slightly to make a slope, and it will sway from side to side as it charmingly makes its way down. Any flat, board-like material works for the slope — a tray, a serving tray, or even a picture book will do.
It's also a lovely gift for baby showers, birthdays, and kindergarten entrance celebrations. As a gift made with handcrafted warmth, it's a wonderful choice for a special occasion.

– FAQ –
Q. What age is it suitable for?
A. The recommended age is 3 years and up. Even for children younger than 3, they can enjoy watching its cute roll down the slope if an adult moves it for them.
Q. What kind of sound does it make?
A. As it rolls down the slope, the glass ball inside knocks against the wood, making a pleasant "koto-koto" sound.
Q. Does the coloring vary between pieces?
A. Because this product is naturally dyed using spent coffee grounds, the way the color takes varies depending on the part of the wood and its condition. Please be aware that some color unevenness and variation in dye absorption may occur.
Q. Are the paint and glue safe?
A. The cap is naturally dyed with coffee grounds and then top-coated with Kigatame Ace, a penetrating finish that cures into a colorless, transparent polymer resin and contains no toluene, xylene, or formaldehyde. It also meets the standards of Japan's Food Sanitation Act (for synthetic resin utensils and containers). The paint used on the face (Osmo Color Normal Clear) is also safe even if licked, and once dry, the coating meets the German industrial standard DIN53160 (saliva/sweat resistance test), the EU toy safety standard EN71-3, and Japan's Food Sanitation Act (toy standard). The glue used, Titebond III, is also highly safety-tested (FDA-approved in the US, ASTM D4236 compliant).
